Holiday Potluck Party for a Cause

by inlu blog patrol on November 25, 2011

Ok, so the turkey leftovers are wrapped in the fridge and life is good. We still have another solid month + of evening get togethers, office holiday huddles and other cheery merrymaking. So, why not get the friends together, and in lieu of bringing gifts, ask people to pitch in for any cause? Pick a local homeless shelter. Raise funds for the rainforest. Collect from your friends, buy dog food for a dog rescue. The ideas are limitless.

Here’s a sample of a Potluck Dinner for a Cause using inlu.com to coordinate a collection for any cause this Holiday:

Football Party? Give Back, Everyone Wins!

by inlu blog patrol on January 31, 2011

Are you ready for some football? Heck yeah? Make it a super duper Super Bowl party by giving back to a cause!

Why not use those hours in front of the tube, eating chips and having fun for the greater good? Not that having fun isn’t a goal in itself (or should I say field goal…buddum-ching) but by giving back, everyone wins, no matter the final score. Send out an Inlu invitation and all your guests donations will be pooled together and sent in one sum. Score! You don’t have to collect checks and your guests can pitch in online. Done.

Wondering what to collect for? You could ask friends to pitch in and bring a can for the local food shelf. You could give as a group to a local community center where kids come together to play and be safe.

You can even give back to a football camp or nonprofit, like the ones below. If you’re a football enthusiast, this is a waaay cool way to party on with a cause in mind. Check out these charities or search for one in your area–> Kids and Pros or the Bayless Foundation

Other kickin’ ideas:

Group gift for the host & hostess: Fleming Jenkins 2007 Madden Ranch Syrah – with grapes from John Madden’s vineyards!

Treats for the Munchkins: Betty Crocker Brownies – Yummy.

For the ladies in the room, check out these (over age 21) temptations.

the TOUCHDOWN!

Classic Snack Attack: Chex Party Mix!

Featured Inlu: BTV Skate Park- Buy a Brick!

by inlu blog patrol on December 15, 2010

Hey friends! Guess what cool Inlu collection is going on right now? The “Buy a Brick and Support the Skate Park” campaign just launched as part of the Burlington Skate Park Redevelopment Project.

This much anticipated, NEW concrete park will attract skaters from all around the region. Anyone is welcome to contribute and no amount is too small. If you’re looking for a creative gift idea, any $50 contribution will “buy” an engraved clay brick to be built into the skatepark wall!

These $50 donation brick purchases (tax deductable!) include a certificate in the name of the honoree. What a GREAT ‘less mess, more love’ gift idea—perfect for a child, teacher, friend, or skateboarder. PLUS, it’s enjoyable for the entire community to share. So, before you head to the mall, why not think about this alternative gift idea? We think it’s awesome and we wish the skate park development posse all the best of luck.

Featured Inlu: Mobius, The Mentoring Movement in BTV

by inlu blog patrol on November 22, 2010

mobius mentoring is using inlu to raise funds!

This post card came in the mail with their fundraiser info!

Last week, when we (team Inlu) opened the mail, we were thrilled to find this postcard (above). Our friends at  Mobius, The Mentoring Movement decided to use Inlu for some end-of-year fundraising. This is really exciting- as local community members, we wish them all the luck raising funds- in any way they can, for increased mentoring presence. If you’d like to participate, contribute or learn more about Mobius, The Mentoring Movement click here.

According to their website:

Research shows young people with mentors are:

  • More likely to stay in school, aspire to achieve better grades, go on to college, and become more trusting and communicative
  • Less likely to smoke, carry a weapon, or engage in violent acts
  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • 27% less likely to begin drinking alcohol
  • 52% less likely to skip school

Holiday Happy Hour, Inlu-Style

by inlu blog patrol on November 19, 2010

Oh, the sparkle-infused, magical evenings of wearing lipstick while sipping tasty eggnog, champagne or warm apple cider are upon us. The leaves are long gone. November is on its way out, and the month of happy hours, holiday festivities and other cheer-filled nights has finally (and quickly, might we add) arrived.

Well, ok, it’s not always so magical. Holidays can be stressful, wasteful and leave you feeling a tad guilty post indulgence. Well, this year, you can make those happy hours happier for everyone by using Inlu.com to round up RSVPs from friends and at the same time, collect for something special– a group donation to a local cause, a gift certificate for the host or even both! It’s really up to you and your circle of pals- what do you all care about? Your local farmshares? Animals? A local cause? The community foodshelf? Think about it and then invite others to come to the party and pitch in when they RSVP.

Think how great you’ll feel after a night of chit-chat, snacks and incriminating holiday party photos (kidding!) knowing it was all worth it cause you and your friends came together to party but as a result, a check is headed over to your local charity.

The way we see it, it’s a recession and if we’re gonna rally, we might as well make something memorable for others to enjoy (other than that one photo you hope to never see on facebook) from the effort. A lot of people are struggling so let’s not party on in vain. CHEERS!
